Foi no dia 17 de setembro de 2008 que os rumores viraram realidade, e se soube realmente o que vinha incluído nesta câmera. O que não se sabia nos primeiros dias era o que realmente significava a inclusão de gravação de vídeo e ela seria o futuro. Embora a Nikon D90 tenha sido a primeira a sair com essa característica, ela não causou tanto aparato como a Canon 5D Mark II fez nos meses seguintes.

Along with the ability to capture full HD video clips at 1920 x 1080 resolution, Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera features a 21.1-megapixel full frame 24 x 36mm CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 imaging processor and significantly lower noise, with an expanded sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 25,600.
